Who I Am

A librarian, researcher and lifelong learner

I am Md. Rifat Mahmud, an academic library professional, researcher, and information science enthusiast serving as an Assistant Library Officer at North South University (NSU), Bangladesh. I hold both a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) and a Master of Arts in Information Science and Library Management from the University of Dhaka.

My professional interests lie at the intersection of library and information science, information behavior, knowledge management, digital information services, and artificial intelligence. Through my work in academic librarianship, I am committed to enhancing information discovery, promoting information literacy, and developing innovative, technology-driven solutions that make scholarly resources more accessible and useful to students, faculty members, and researchers.

As a researcher, I have contributed to more than ten peer-reviewed journal publications, with research interests encompassing misinformation and its dissemination, information-seeking behavior, social media as an information source, artificial intelligence in libraries, and knowledge management. My research aims to understand how people access, evaluate, and use information in an increasingly complex digital environment.

I am particularly interested in exploring how emerging technologies, including AI-powered chatbots and intelligent information retrieval systems, can transform academic library services. My practical experience in library operations, digital resource discovery, research support, and the development of AI-enabled library solutions allows me to connect academic research with real-world professional challenges.

I believe that libraries are evolving beyond traditional repositories of knowledge into dynamic, technology-enabled spaces that empower learning, research, and innovation. My goal is to contribute to this transformation through meaningful research, continuous professional development, and the responsible application of emerging technologies in library and information services.

My vision is to bridge research, technology, and information practice to build more accessible, intelligent, and user-centered information environments.
Outside work, I enjoy reading and photography.
